The Night That Silenced The Violins 2023

02. 08. 2023

On the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide against Roma and Sinti, we kindly invite you to the commemorative event The Night That Silenced The Violins.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 2 August 2023, at the Jewish Square (between the former synagogue and the Jewish Tower) at 7 p.m.

The cultural program coordinator of the Synagogue Maribor, Marjetka Bedrač, and the president of the EPEKA Association, a social enterprise, Štefan Simončič, will address the visitors on behalf of the organizers.

We will honour the memory of the Roma victims of the Nazi genocide with a concert by the band Der Šenster Gob.

Der Šenster Gob is an acoustic band from Prague that plays Roma, Jewish and Balkan music and travels around Europe in a romantic green wooden caravan. They play different compositions in style, from old traditional Jewish klezmer songs to newer Romany tunes with a more jazzy sound. Their music is imbued with the spirit of traveling musicians and travelers, and their performances are full of energy and imagination, while at the same time showing great respect for tradition. The group consists of Matěj Heinzl (clarinet, saxophone, vocals), Martin Sochor (violin, vocals), Jan Vítů (acoustic guitar, double bass, vocals) and Vojtěch Vasko (double bass, harmonica, tuba, vocals).

In case of rain, the event will be held in the Synagogue Maribor. Entry free.

You are welcome!
