The Night That Silenced The Violins 2022

On the evening of 2nd of August 1944, the Nazis closed down Sector BIIe or “Zigeunerlager” (“Gypsy camp”) at Auschwitz-Birkenau and brutally murdered nearly three thousand Sinti and Roma in the gas chambers in a single night.

On the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide against Roma and Sinti, the Center of Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor in cooperation with the Association EPEKA and GT22 kindly invites you to a commemorative event

The Night That Silenced the Violins.

The event will take place on Tuesday, 2nd of August 2022, at Intimnekino GT22 (building GT22, entrance from Židovska ulica/trg) at 11 a.m..

At the commemorative event, the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Maribor, Alenka Iskra, will address the visitors as the main speaker.

This will be followed by a screening of the documentary The Forgotten Genocide: Europe’s Gypsies in World War II, directed by Juliette Jourdan and Idit Bloch, written by Henriette Asséo, Idit Bloch and Juliette Jourdan, produced by KUIV and Mémoire Magnétique, France , 2011).
