The Five Loves

The Five Loves

11. 06. 2019

The Litera Publishing House invites you to the presentation of a new novel by Zdenko Kodrič The Five Loves. An excerpt from the novel will be read by Mateja Pucko, actress of Slovene National Theater of Maribor.

The presentation will be on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at 7 pm, at the Synagogue Maribor (Jewish square 4). The event will be held in Slovene language.

The novel Five Loves deals not only with the medieval expulsion of the Jews from Maribor, but also with the fate and the places where the Marpurgs ended up. The author made considerable efforts in the exploration of Jewish migration flows, as he accompanied them in Germany, Italy, Egypt, and Hungary; he was with them until their return in the 19th and 20th centurie. The writer builds a literary framework with female Marpurgs, members of the former strong and wealthy Jewish community in the city along the Drava river. The protagonists of the novel are embroidering layer by layer their ties between the Jews from these countries and cities such as Munich, Budapest, Venice, Genoa, and Cairo. The story in the novel leads and directs the gold menorah, the Jewish lampstand. We can speak of a unique romanized fresco – painted between 1496 and 1999 – where fantastic fragments of history and human destinies are exchanged.

The organizer of the presentation is The Litera Publishing House, led by Orlando Uršič, editor-in-chief of the publishing house.
