We are pleased to be able to invite you to the Synagogue Maribor again on the occasion of the Slovenian cultural day. Due to the current restrictions and recommendations of the NIJZ, only individual visits are possible for the time being, and the Synagogue may accept a maximum of three visitors at a time. The staff of the Synagogue Maribor will make sure that your visit takes place without complications and safely.
On 8th of February, we will prepare an Open doors day for you. On this day, you will be able to visit us from 10:00 to 18:00 and see the current art exhibition:
– An exhibition of photographs by Marko Vogrič Nono Franc, Gorica – Dachau. A Photo Letter from the Camp is on display in the lobby of the Synagogue;
– in the main hall of the Synagogue there is an exhibition of graphics and drawings by Bogdan Borčić In principio erat Dachau; The exhibited works are from the permanent collection of the Graphic Cabinet of Bogdan Borčić in the Božidar Jakac Gallery in Kostanjevica na Krki.
Due to the possibility that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia may close cultural institutions again by 8th of February, we kindly ask all visitors who plan to visit the Synagogue Maribor on the Slovenian cultural day to follow current announcements on our website, social networks and media.
On 8th of February, we have also prepared some new virtual content for you. From that day on, they will be available on our website and on Facebook or via Zoom:
– At 11:00, a virtual invitation to view current exhibitions in the Synagogue Maribor with a short presentation of the history of the first Nazi camp Dachau (available on the website and Facebook).
– At 14:00, a glimpse into making of the virtual 360° presentation of the Synagogue Maribor; you are invited to share with us, what topics would you like to see, when the presentationis finished (available on the website and Facebook).
– At 17:00, a virtual presentation of the catalog “Here Is Where Death Worked Itself to Death…”: the Slovenian victims of Auschwitz and a conversation with Boris Hajdinjak, director of the Synagogue Maribor and author of the exhibition of the same name; the exhibition is currently on display at the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia. The discussion will be led by dr. Monika Kokalj Kočevar, museum councilor at the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia.
