Screening of the film Ecstasy

Screening of the film Ecstasy

13. 12. 2022

On Tuesday, 18th of December 2022, at 6 p.m., we kindly invite you to the Great Hall of the Maribor Puppet Theatre for a screening of the film Ecstasy (1933).

The film by the Czech director Gustavo Machatý, who made Erotikon with Ita Rina a few years earlier, at its premiere, despite its indisputable artistic value, caused severe indignation and disgust in the public due to some scenes. Censors were ruthless, different versions of the original were made, from which controversial scenes were cut, and in some countries the film was banned altogether.

In the film Ecstasy, one of her first major roles was played by the beautiful Hedwig Kiesler, who later rose to fame as Hedy Lamarr and became one of the most prominent actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood. The Yugoslav actor Zvonimir Rogoz and the German actor Aribert Mog played alongside her.

At this screening, a digitally restored version of the film will be shown, which was prepared in 2019 by the L’Immagine Ritrovata studio with the support of the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary and under the supervision of the National Film Archive in Prague.

The screening will be followed by a discussion in which journalist and filmmaker Majda Širca, film critic and theorist Veronika Zakonjšek, and filmmaker and director of the Slovenian Film Festival Bojan Labović will participate.

You are welcome!

Free entry.
