On 20 October, we mark the day of the first written mention of Maribor, so on the occasion of the holiday od the Municipality of Maribor, we present a number of activities to the townspeople, which we named: “Maribor Day 2023 – Connecting citizens and getting to know our city“. With the desire to get to know our city’s history through a visit to the suburbs and city hills, together with the Municipality of Maribor, cultural institutes and public companies, we organize many free activities for citizens and visitors.

MARIBOR DAY 2023 – Memorial evening to deserving residents of our city: dr. Jože Koropec
  Wednesday, 18 October, at 6:00 p.m.
Maribor Regional Museum, Knight’s Hall
The evening will be dedicated to the memory of the emeritus professor of the Faculty of Pedagogy Maribor (now the Faculty of Arts Maribor) dr. Jože Koropec, whose hundredth anniversary was this year. His contributions to the local history of Štajerska and Maribor are exceptional. We invited the Maribor Faculty of Arts, the Department of History and the Journal of History and Anthropology (ČZN) to participate. Koropec restored ČZN in 1965 and was its editor until 1984.
The life and work of dr. Dr. Jože Koropec will be introduced by Andrej Hozjan, Ph.D. Vlasta Stavbar and Boris Hajdinjak.

MARIBOR DAY 2023 – By bus to the suburbs of Maribor
  Thursday, 19 October, at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m
Location: Melje and Pobrežje – (bus number 1):
Guided tour of the former Huttr factory (later MTT) in Melje with mr. Marjan Mencigar, the last employee of MTT, a tour of the former customs station in Melje, the Stolpersteine in Pobrežje and the Pobrežje Cemetery.
Participants: National Liberation Museum Maribor, Synagogue Maribor, Marjetka Berlič and pupils of Draga Kobala Elementary School Maribor

MARIBOR DAY 2023 – Maribor inside the former walls
  Friday, 20 October, at 4:00 p.m.
Walking tour of Maribor inside the former city walls. The tour will be dedicated to the Middle Ages, the period in which, on 20 October 1164, Maribor was first mentioned in a document.
MEETING PLACE: Jurčič monument, Trg Generala Maistra
END OF THE TOUR: Puppet Theatre Maribor
The tour will last from 16:00 to 19:00. Maximum of 25 visitors.

The tour of the city will be carried out with the cooperation of the institutions: Maribor Provincial Museum, Vetrinjski dvor, St. Maribor Parish, Maribor Synagogue, Maribor Provincial Archives and Maribor Puppet Theatre. The tour is led by Boris Hajdinjak.
