Marc Chagall – between Judaism and Christianity

07. 09. 2017

Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was a Belarusian-French artist of Jewish roots, one of the most recognizable representatives of surrealism and pioneers of modernism. He drew inspiration for his works from Belarusian peasant life and biblical themes, while developing a special poetic-figurative painting style. Symbols are an important component of his art.

Art critic and cultural worker Mario Berdič will present Chagall’s art and symbolism. The lecture will be held on Thursday, 7 September, at 6 p.m. in the Maribor Synagogue.

The lecture was prepared as part of the project European Days of Jewish Culture 2017: Jewish Diaspora and with the financial support of the Municipality of Maribor.
