Dan Reisinger: Scrolls of Fire, opening of an exhibition of prints
The internationally renowned Israeli painter and designer Dan Reisinger (1934, Kanjiža, Serbia) designed the series of works “Fire scrolls” in 1979 as a graphic representation of the verses of the famous Israeli poet Abba Kovner. Kovner’s poetry and Reisinger’s works thus form a subtle whole, with which they remind the creators of the unfortunate fate of the Jewish people in different places and periods. The exhibition has already been set up in various museums and galleries around the world, but today it is part of the permanent exhibition in the Lendava Synagogue.

Jewish Street and Jewish Square: buildings, people and events, guided tour
The area of Židovska ulica and Židovska trga is one of the most picturesque, but also the least known parts of Maribor. Through words, photographs, film and objects, we will present the interesting past of this part of the city, connect it with the lively present and, we hope, give it a brilliant future. The start of the tour will be in front of the synagogue building. In case of rain, virtual guidance will take place in the synagogue building.

Zdenko Kodrič: Five Loves, presentation of the novel
The novel Five Loves not only deals with the medieval expulsion of Jews from Maribor, but also the fate and places where the Marpurgi took refuge. We can rightly speak of a unique Romanized fresco – painted between 1496 and 1999 – on which fantastic fragments of history and human destinies alternate. An excerpt from the novel will be read by Mateja Pucka, an actress from SNG Maribor.

During the Lent Festival 2019, from 20 to 29 June 2019, “Lenta” festival ticket holders have free entry to the Synagogue even during regular opening hours.
