Festival of Photography Maribor 2021

18. 09. 2021

As part of the open doors day, we invite visitors to a free tour of the former Jewish synagogue and current exhibitions in it.

In the main room of the synagogue there is a documentary exhibition “Dialogue”, prepared by Olga Lempert and Zack Rothbart from the National Library of Israel. Dialogue has an extremely important place in Judaism, and the authors of the exhibition shed light on this topic from five different aspects: as dialogue between generations, dialogue between texts, dialogue in community, dialogue between cultures and dialogue between religions.

The Maribor Synagogue has been participating in the Festival of Photography Maribor for many years now, which is organized annually by the Photoclub Maribor. This year, in the foyer of the former Maribor synagogue, Maribor photographer Dušan Gajšek presents his exhibition “Behind the Fog“. At the setting up of Gajšek’s exhibition, the Photoclub Maribor  wrote: “… Fog is one of the phenomena that has always aroused artistic and poetic thinking about the world. It covers just enough of our environment to be overwhelmed by its mystery and encourages us to think about how things and thoughts are hidden. Forced to look only at what is still visible, we look at ourselves… We wonder what is behind the fog, what we see and what we unconsciously carry within us… Dušan Gajšek shows with almost pictorialist digital photographs the grace and allure of the fog, the places and the people that were surrounded and awakened by it. ”

We are organizing the open doors day as part of the European Days of Jewish Culture 2021 and the Festival of Photography Maribor 2021 projects.
