Maribor Synagogue – A Cultural Monument of National Importance

As part of the European Heritage Days, the Center of Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor traditionally opens its doors and offers visitors a free tour of the former medieval Jewish synagogue in Maribor and current exhibitions in it.

The former Jewish synagogue in Maribor is the only preserved medieval synagogue in Slovenia. Today, it no longer serves its original purpose, but is instead home to the public institution Center of Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor. The main tasks of the Synagogue Maribor centre are to research and present Jewish heritage, culture and art, which our visitors can learn about through a wide range of cultural events and temporary exhibitions. We invite our visitors to visit the synagogue and the current touring documentary exhibition of the Museum of Jewish Culture in Bratislava “Women. Stories of Women Who Influenced the World”. From 1 October 2024 onwards, the Synagogue Maribor will simultaneously host the National Library of Israel’s documentary exhibition “Family”.

During the European Heritage Days, the Maribor Synagogue will be open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm, and additionally on Saturdays, 28 September, 5 October and 12 October 2024, from 10am to 2pm.
