The award-winning documentary The Destruction of Memory focuses on the importance of cultural heritage for humanity and the need to protect it.

We kindly invite you to the screening of the movie Destruction of Memory, which will take place on Thursday, 5 March 2020, at 6 pm at the Maribor Synagogue (Židovska ulica 4).

Thev award-winning documentary The Memory Destruction (directed by Tim Slade, 2016, 85 min) focuses on the importance of cultural heritage for humanity and the need to protect it. In the last century, the destruction of cultural goods has taken a terrible toll. In Syria and Iraq, the cradle of civilization, the millennia old culture has been destroyed. International law and politics have not always contributed to the solution, rather they often added to it, but brave individuals have decided to resist them and try to protect not only other human beings, but also our cultural identity – a record of who we are – even at the cost of risking their lives.

The film, made on the basis of Robert Bevan’s book proposal, reveals not only the current fate of heritage in crisis areas, for example, in areas controlled by ISIS and other military formations, but also the decisions from the past that allowed this problem to be hidden away for so many years. Many internationally renowned experts are involved in the film, calling on the community to act and resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Welcome!
