Jews in Maribor during the novel Marpurgi

13. 04. 2021

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, 13th of April 2021, at 17:00 for the online lecture Jews in Maribor during the novel MarpurgiBoris Hajdinjak, director of Synagogue Maribor, will give a lecture.

The Jewish community in Maribor was the largest medieval community in the territory of today’s Slovenia and the centre of Judaism not only in Styria, but also in neighbouring countries.
This was the motive of Zlata Vokač Medic to write the novel Marpurgi, which had its fourth reprint at the Beletrina publishing house last year. Last year, the opera Marpurgi was premiered at the SNG Maribor, the libretto of which was based on Vokač’s novel.
In the same year, Maribor Library and Synagogue Maribor prepared an exhibition and catalogue Marpurgi: Between History and Literary Freedom. Therefore, there are more than enough reasons that Maribor and the Jews of that time will be presented to us by Boris Hajdinjak, a historian, co-author (with Klemen Brvar) of the exhibition Marpurgi, director of Synagogue Maribor and a connoisseur of the Middle Ages and the history of Jews in Slovenia.

The link will be available HERE and on the website of Maribor Library on the day of the event. The lecture will be in Slovenian.

Welcome!
