Classical today? tomorrow?

Classical today? tomorrow?

– 20. 11. 2021

In the Epeka Association for the fourth year with the concert series Klasika danas? tomorrow? they continue to search for the placement of classical music in contemporary time and space.

Where does classical music belong today? Exclusively to concert halls? Churches? Weddings? Festival? Clubs? Elevators? Stores? Where else does it belong? And in what form? Strictly evening, dazzling, with selected words, top quality wine? Original, as it once was, or is modernization allowed? Is this the only desirable version? The only one meaningful?

Classical music found itself in the rapid vortex of modern times in a crisis of a once steel-strong identity. As if getting into a mixture of elitism, conservatism and time-consuming meticulousness. The “instant” age with a surplus of information seems to have a hard time processing art, which requires a little more attention, time, and consideration in its treatment. But even classical music is still – music after all! And at its core, one of the functions of art, however, is entertainment. Much of the repertoire of classics was and still is written for this very purpose. Technical perfection, virtuosity of performance and aesthetic and expressive contribution are the additions that only support the basic purpose.

Cycle Classical today? tomorrow? is set as proof that the curiosity of the individual is more than enough to enjoy classical music. Young, daring performers will present themselves in less usual ensembles, which bring freshness and novelty to the classical scene, but do not neglect the importance of quality performance and choice of programme.
