Slovenian victims of Auschwitz in Koper

23. 03. 2023
You are cordially invited to the opening and viewing of the exhibition entitled: “Here death has tired itself to death…”: Slovenian victims of Auschwitz.

Koper Regional Museum, Thursday, 23 March 2023, at noon. The exhibition will be on display until June 2023.

On January 27, 2023, 78 years have passed since the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. There is no place in the world more marked by death. During the operation of Auschwitz (1940-1945), about 1.1 million people were killed here, of which 1 million were Jews.
The exhibition tells about about 2,300 people from Slovenia who were taken to this camp. The majority were Slovenians, but among those deported there were also around 350 Jews, at least 78 Roma and at least one member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. For around 1,300 of them, Auschwitz is the place of death.
The exhibition, prepared by the Synagogue Maribor, was put on display for the first time on 23 January 2020 as part of the Shoah – Let Us Remember 2020 project.
